Dear Fellow Members,
Life is made more exciting by its many little surprises and how we deal with them. Several weeks ago the ACC received a notice from the Social Bureau, the government body that oversees all the non-profit organizations, that the term of the President cannot be re-elected more than 2 consecutive terms. As a result, my third term as President is in conflict to those regulations.
There are several possible ways that we could try to address the issue, but I have taken the personal decision to resign my position effective immediately for the good of the Club and to avoid any possible risk to the Club.
The Board has accepted my resignation and has voted Donald Bailey as your new President. Don has been our Treasurer for the past one and half years and will provide strong leadership for the remainder of this year. The Board has voted me in as Treasurer and head of the Finance Committee.
My intention is to maintain my commitment to the Club and to seek election for ACC s President next year at which time I will again be eligible. I hope to have your support.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Membership, ACC Management and Staff, and my fellow Board Members for their great support during my past two plus years as the ACC president. Just reflecting back, we have accomplished much together as a team.
My first major task as President was to lead the search for a new GM and we have successfully brought Todd Bretzlaff to the ACC and he has been doing a great job in bringing the Club to the next level.
The second big challenge was to have the Club reach a strong financial position and that was done with the full support of everyone.
The third was the most exciting which was to push forward and successfully complete on time and within budget our most ambitious redesign project which brought our Terrace, Beauty Salon, Fitness Center, Library, and Lounge Area on the second floor, to much higher standards. We have seen the Club revitalized as a result of the improvements and in bringing the ACC experience to the next level.
Fourth, we are currently embarking on the redesign of both sets of locker room areas including the Jacuzzi and showers, and steam and sauna facilities.
We are also starting the metamorphosis of the Napa Grille. We are currently studying the feasibility of bringing in Japanese cuisine to provide a greater variety of food and beverage venues for our Members. Not only does Japanese cuisine makes the most sense from a number of logistical and operational perspectives, it was also the preferred choice from the Member s Survey in addition to being an extremely healthy dining option.
Overall, we have taken concrete steps to find ways to increase the engagement and sense of belonging among our Members within ACC - “To make the ACC our Oasis in Taiwan”.
In life we need to be flexible, take risks and to make difficult decisions. This is what makes life interesting. Thank you all for your great support and I look forward to see the ACC continue to move on its current path to even greater levels of excellence.
See you around the Club,
Godwin Chang
President
