ACC Rules - Mobile Phone Policy
August 11, 2009

Almost everyone in Taiwan accepts that mobile phones are a key facilitator in our daily lives. They keep us “connected” when we are either away from home or the office. They help us stay in touch with friends and family wherever we go.

However, the ACC Board of Governors would like to remind all Members that one of our Club’s key missions is to facilitate “face-to-face” social interaction, so that we have an opportunity to converse with each other in a more relaxed, personal environment. Therefore, as a fundamental Club rule, all Members should turn-off their mobile phones, whenever they enter Club premises, in order not to disturb others.

In cases, when either an urgent or important call is expected, Members should keep their mobile phone on “vibrate” mode, so they can exit interior Club venues promptly to answer these calls, either in the designated lobby phone area, or other exterior areas around the Club building.

Per Club rules, all Members are responsible for the behavior of both their guests and family employees. Please inform your guests and family employees, regarding the Club’s mobile phone policy before they enter so they will not be embarrassed, or
otherwise asked to exit the Club to take a call. Whenever Members or guests take calls around the periphery of the Club building, we request that the call lengths be limited, and the call volumes be lowered, so as not to disturb other Club patrons.

Please note that these mobile phone restrictions also apply to both PDA, and computer-integrated VOIP/IP applications (e.g., Skype). Answering an Internet phone call via cyberspace by use of a headset has the same effect as the use of a mobile phone inside the Club.

According to the recently completed the Club Member Survey, the Board of Governors noted that there were a few Members, who requested wider mobile phone access.
However, the consensus of the majority of our Members is that this rule should remain as is, without any changes. A larger number of Members explicitly complained that Club mobile phone regulations were not being adequately enforced.

To remind Members of the Club mobile phone regulations, new signs will be
prominently posted, and staff will be instructed to advise offenders of their obligation to take their mobile phone calls outside the Club building. Please cooperate with our staff, as they are tasked with enforcing our regulations for the well-being of everyone at the Club.

Thank you,
