Special Olympics Chinese Taipei

中華台北特奧會

Special Olympics Chinese Taipei (SOCT) was established in 1992, originally as the “ROC Sports Association for Intellectually Disabled Individuals”. Current President of the Association is Ms. Huang Min-Hui while pioneers of SOCT were all special education teachers who volunteered for the movement. SOCT sports include swimming, skating, table tennis, golf, bowling, floorball, tennis, basketball, bocce, etc. Athletes train and compete to qualify for participation in various local competitions as well as East Asia Regional tournaments and global Special Olympics Winter/Summer World Games.

In addition to sports related activities, non-sports activities such as Family Forums, Athlete Leadership and Youth Summit events, Healthy Athlete screenings, Law Enforcement Torch Run and Volunteer trainings are also held. All these efforts are to raise the sports quantity and quality of our intellectually disabled athletes and allow for them and their families to integrate into society, receive support and exercise their potential. At the same time, we aim to promote inclusion to the general public so that social welfare, special education and sports for the intellectually disabled can become an integrated development and vision.
