Tommy Chan Leaving ACC After 32 Years (Expired)

It is with regret that we announce that Tommy Chan has decided to leave the ACC after 32 years of service. Tommy will be leaving us at the end of the month.

Tommy began his career at the Club as the Manager of Group Fitness Classes and is still an active and popular group class instructor to this day. Over the years his responsibilities grew, with the Swimming Pool and later Racquet Sports added to his portfolio. His role continued to grow with every sports activity under his leadership as Sports and Recreation Director. Tommy has been very active in other club events as well and has been the “voice of the Club” on many special occasions. (He doesn’t like the title “emcee” or “Master of Ceremonies”.) Finally, he has watched many Members children grow up at the Club, with many of them now having children of their own.

Tommy is leaving for personal reasons and has asked that we don’t use the word “retirement” to describe his departure. (“I’m too young to retire”, he says.) He hopes that he will be able to continue his association with the ACC in some capacity in the years ahead, so we may hear him as the emcee – I mean host – at future Club events or see him pushing his students in their group exercise class! Tommy doesn’t want a farewell party – “I don’t think I could get through it”, he says – and hopes that Members and staff alike will say their private goodbyes to him in the weeks ahead.

In Tommy’s case, the phrase “until next time” is more fitting than saying “goodbye”. Please join me in thanking Tommy for his dedicated years of service and in wishing him all the best in the future.
