RACV City Club, Melbourne

Located in the heart of the downtown business district and with an old-world glamour the RACV club is a great place to stay in Melbourne.  Sometimes we forget about the privileges that membership of the ACC affords us and I was glad that – at a chance meeting where I revealed I was travelling to Australia – the staff of the ACC reminded me that we have reciprocal club relations all over the world.  The RACV club is in Collins street which cuts a gorgeous swathe across Melbourne from Spencer Street all the way out to the Parliament buildings.  A walk down Collins street takes you past law offices, boutiques, and hidden alley ways with bars cool enough for even the most hard core hipsters.  Trams and taxis stop right outside the door.

The club itself is beautiful; old enough to feel warm but new enough to impress.  It caters to a mixed clientele of international visitors and local members.  The food was five-star standard and the lobby welcomed club members and their guests through a brief security protocol that didn’t interfere overly much but still let you feel you were somewhere exclusive; a great place to meet clients or catch up with friends.

The club has become my favourite place to stay in Melbourne and, regardless of reciprocity, I would want to stay there anytime I am in Melbourne.

Now, where am I going next?  Must check and see what reciprocal clubs we have there…
